Sterling Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

A full Sterling kitchen remodel in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100, and most projects take four to eight weeks from demo to final walkthrough. We stock Sterling-compatible hardware and source genuine Sterling components direct from our documented supplier network, so you’re never waiting on a mystery part to arrive from a warehouse in Ohio. Homeowners usually call us after a hinge lets go, a drawer box splits along the glide rail, or a finish starts peeling on the cabinet face that was supposed to last twenty years.

Sterling kitchens are solid mid-range workhorses when they’re installed right, but the failure points are predictable. Los Angeles homes from the 1980s through early 2000s carry a lot of Sterling cabinetry, and what we pull out of those kitchens follows a pattern: particleboard drawer boxes that swell from sink-side steam, roller glides that grind instead of slide, and overlay doors that sag when the hinge screws lose their bite in soft substrate. The good news is that remodels like this are exactly what we do, and the fix doesn’t have to mean tearing everything to the studs.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s kitchen lines changed names and specs several times over the decades, so identifying exactly what you have matters before we price a single cabinet or countertop. In Los Angeles kitchens we most often see the Sterling Deluxe series with framed overlay doors, a mid-90s to early-2000s line that uses 3/4-inch face frames but only 1/2-inch side panels, which means the boxes themselves are lighter than what you’d get from KraftMaid or Wellborn today. We also see Sterling’s builder-grade line, typically white thermofoil doors on particleboard cores, which fails at the door edges first when moisture finds the seams.

The quickest way to identify your Sterling model is the sticker inside the sink base cabinet door hinge-side, which carries the series code and sometimes the original order number. If that sticker’s gone, pull a hinge and look for the Sterling stamp on the back plate. Here’s what matters for your decision: genuine Sterling replacement parts are still available for many lines, but for a full remodel, we typically recommend matching the original footprint with current Sterling-compatible cabinetry or stepping up to a documented brand from our roster, KraftMaid or Wellborn, which gives you plywood drawer boxes and soft-close hardware that Sterling’s older lines never had. You’re not locked into Sterling, and we’ll give you the honest tradeoff in writing before you commit.

Signs Your Sterling Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer front pulls away from the box. The staple joints holding the front to the particleboard sides fail after years of the steam-and-shrink cycle Los Angeles kitchens put them through. Once one staple lets go, the rest follow within months.
  • Doors hang crooked or won’t stay closed. The overlay hinges were screwed into 1/2-inch side panels, and the screw holes wallow out over time. You can move the hinge, but you’re just relocating the problem to fresh fiberboard.
  • Thermofoil peeling at door edges and bottoms. Sterling’s white and wood-look thermofoil doors start delaminating where dishwasher steam hits them, and once the seal breaks, the MDF core underneath starts swelling. There’s no durable repair for this, only replacement.
  • Roller glides grinding or drawers binding. The plastic rollers on Sterling’s builder lines wear flat after about ten to fifteen years of daily use. You’ll hear it first, then feel the drawer stutter mid-pull.
  • Face frame joints opening at the corners. The frame was never the problem, but the fasteners Sterling used in some Los Angeles installations were undersized for the humidity swings. Joints separate, doors misalign, and the whole cabinet starts working against itself.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

In Los Angeles, a Sterling kitchen remodel runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, and that spread depends on cabinet count, countertop material, and whether you’re keeping the existing layout or moving plumbing and electrical. At the lower end you’re looking at a galley kitchen with stock-depth cabinets and a laminate or basic quartz counter; the upper end carries an island, custom cabinet configurations, and a stone surface from Cambria or Silestone with a full-height backsplash. Small kitchen remodels in tighter Los Angeles layouts typically land between $10,620 and $23,600.

Every Bradford quote is a written price before any work starts. That price includes demolition and disposal, cabinet and hardware installation, countertop fabrication and install, plumbing reconnect at the sink, and a written scope that says exactly what’s included and what’s not. No numbers move at the door, and if the work fails inside one year, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, and we don’t operate without it.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely check the labels, pull a drawer and inspect the glides, and verify your sink base for water damage, because knowing what you’ve got before you talk to us makes the conversation faster. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling cabinets off the wall if you’re not sure how the boxes are fastened to the studs, because a falling upper cabinet in a Los Angeles kitchen is a serious hazard, and so is cutting into a wall that might carry plumbing or electrical you didn’t know about. If you’re swapping hinge hardware only, that’s manageable with a drill and patience. If the cabinets themselves are failing, this is not a weekend project.

Call Curtis Lane and the Bradford Remodeling team at (903) 568-7222. We’ll walk through what you’re seeing, give you a straight number, and put the scope in writing before a single tool comes out. Straight number, real scope, no surprises at the punch list.
