IKO Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle and underlayment failures in Los Angeles typically run $470 to $2,125 to repair when caught early, and $9,440 to $23,600 for full roof replacement when the damage has spread. We stock IKO-compatible repair materials on our trucks and can match most Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic series shingles same-week. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover an IKO failure the same way: a water stain on the ceiling after a Santa Ana wind event, or granules collecting in gutters after a heavy rain cycle.
IKO products see specific stress patterns in this climate. The combination of intense UV exposure, seasonal temperature swings, and wind-driven debris means shingle seal failures and underlayment degradation show up faster here than in coastal or temperate markets. Curtis Lane and our crew have repaired enough IKO roofs across Los Angeles to know exactly what goes first and what it costs to fix it properly.
Bradford Remodeling is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with IKO, though we work with their products regularly and respect their specifications.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

The IKO product line in Los Angeles residential roofing breaks into three main shingle families: Cambridge (the most common, architectural laminate), Dynasty (heavier, higher wind rating), and Nordic (premium, oversized look). Each uses different sealant strip patterns and nail zones, so matching the right replacement matters. A Cambridge shingle will technically nail onto a Dynasty roof, but the sealant alignment won’t sit right, and you’ll get wind uplift within a season or two.
If you don’t know which series you have, check the bundle wrapper in your garage or attic. IKO prints the series name and production code on every wrapper, and the code tells us the plant, date, and lot. If the wrapper is gone, we can identify the series from the shingle’s exposure width and the pattern of the sealant strips on the back. For older IKO roofs installed before 2010, there’s a solid chance the original series is discontinued, and we’ll match with the closest current equivalent rather than a mismatched aftermarket piece.
On underlayment, IKO’s standard is their RoofGard synthetic line, but many Los Angeles homes have older felt-based IKO underlayment under the shingles. When we open a repair area and find felt underlayment that’s dry-rotted, we replace the exposed section with a synthetic equivalent before laying new shingles. It’s a spec upgrade that costs little and prevents a repeat failure.

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutters or at downspout outlets. IKO shingles shed granules as the asphalt surface oxidizes under Los Angeles sun. A light sprinkle is normal. A pile of granules that looks like coarse sand is not. It means the shingle’s protective layer is nearly gone and the asphalt underneath is cooking.
- Lifted or flapping shingle tabs after wind events. The sealant strip on IKO laminates bonds the tab to the shingle below. When that bond breaks, the tab lifts and catches wind. In Los Angeles, the Santa Anas will peel a compromised IKO roof section by section. If you see tabs standing up from the street, the seal has failed.
- Water staining on ceilings or along exterior walls after rain. By the time water shows up inside, it has already passed through the shingle layer and the underlayment. On IKO roofs, common entry points are valley flashings, pipe boot penetrations, and any spot where a previous repair cut corners on sealant.
- Brittle or cracked shingles at the roof edges and eaves. The first two feet of roof edge takes the most UV and heat reflection from fascia and gutter metal. IKO shingles in this zone dry out faster than the field of the roof. If the edge shingles snap when touched or show surface cracks, the rest of the roof is not far behind.
- Dark streaks or moss-like growth in shaded roof sections. Los Angeles roofs with heavy tree cover hold moisture longer in the morning. That trapped moisture accelerates granule loss and asphalt degradation on IKO shingles, especially on north-facing slopes. The streaks are usually algae, but the underlying asphalt is weakened.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

IKO roof repair in Los Angeles lands between $470 and $2,125 for most homeowners, depending on how much decking and underlayment has to be replaced along with the shingles. A small isolated repair with a few matched IKO shingles and new sealant runs at the low end. A repair that involves opening a section, replacing rotted decking, installing new synthetic underlayment, and blending shingles across a larger area pushes toward the high end. Full IKO roof replacement runs $9,440 to $23,600, driven by roof size, pitch, tear-off requirements, and whether we’re re-flashing the entire perimeter and valleys.
Every quote we give in Los Angeles is a written line-item price. You’ll see the cost of IKO materials, underlayment, flashing, fasteners, labor, and disposal separated out before any work starts. The number on that sheet is the number you pay. If we open the roof and find hidden decking damage beyond the original scope, we show you the condition, give you a written change order with the added cost, and get your approval before proceeding. You never get a surprise invoice at the end.
All IKO roofing work we complete carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a repair or replacement fails within the first year, we return and correct it at no charge. That promise is in writing on every job, alongside the manufacturer’s warranty on the IKO materials themselves.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things an owner can check safely from the ground or a ladder: granule buildup in gutters, visible lifted tabs, cracked edge shingles, and water stains inside the house. Those observations help us diagnose before we even get on the roof. What you should not do is walk a Los Angeles roof yourself, especially a two-story with a pitch steeper than 4:12. IKO shingles get slick with morning dew and granule dust, and a fall from even a single-story roof can end badly.
Repair work itself is not a weekend project. The sealant strips on IKO laminates require specific temperature conditions to bond correctly, and breaking the seal on surrounding shingles to weave in a repair is easy to get wrong. One misplaced nail through a shingle seam creates a new leak path. If you’re seeing active leaking or missing shingles, call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll schedule an inspection with a written repair quote. You’ll know the number before we touch the roof.
FAQs

IKO architectural shingles typically last 15 to 25 years in Los Angeles, though the actual lifespan depends on sun exposure, roof pitch, and ventilation. South-facing slopes with poor attic ventilation can see shingle failure in 12 to 15 years, while shaded, well-ventilated roofs can push past 20. We’ll give you an honest assessment of how much life is left in your IKO roof when we inspect it. Call (903) 568-7222 to schedule a look.
Most IKO roofs with isolated damage can be repaired if the surrounding shingles still have flexibility and granule coverage. If the shingles are brittle across multiple slopes, or the underlayment has failed in several areas, patching becomes a losing game and replacement is the smarter spend. We’ll show you the condition in photos and give you both numbers before you decide.
A typical IKO shingle repair in Los Angeles takes one crew visit of 2 to 4 hours, depending on the number of damaged areas and whether decking replacement is involved. Full IKO roof replacement usually runs 2 to 5 days for a standard single-family home. We sequence the work so the roof is watertight at the end of every working day.
We keep IKO Cambridge shingles in common Los Angeles colors on our trucks, along with IKO-compatible synthetic underlayment and standard flashing components. Dynasty and Nordic series, and less common colorways, are ordered per job with a 3 to 7 day lead time. If you can give us the color name from your original paperwork, or a photo of the shingle in daylight, we can confirm what we have on hand in one call.
