ViewLux Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
A ViewLux fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a full post-and-panel replacement, including materials, old fence teardown, and concrete setting. We stock ViewLux-compatible posts, rails, and panel brackets on the truck, so most jobs are done in one day. Most owners discover a problem the way you just did: a gate that drags after a rain, a panel that rattles in the Santa Ana wind, or a post that’s suddenly leaning toward the neighbor’s camellias.
ViewLux builds a composite and vinyl fence system that’s popular in Los Angeles because it holds up to UV and doesn’t need paint. But the system is only as good as its installation. What fails first is almost never the panel itself. It’s the post footing, the bracket hardware, or the gate hinge block pulling out of the post wall. That’s the repair conversation we have most often, and it’s a different job than a from-scratch install.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux runs several product lines under one warranty umbrella: the Classic series (tongue-and-groove vinyl panels), the Horizon series (wider 5-foot and 6-foot privacy panels with a matte finish), and the Decorative series (lattice-top and rail-insert panels). The posts are the same 4×4 or 5×5 hollow vinyl sleeve across all lines, and that’s where compatibility matters most. A Horizon panel will not seat cleanly into a Classic post without the correct U-channel adapter, and we’ve seen that mismatch crack the panel edge within a year in LA heat.
Here’s the identification move, and it’s worth doing before you call anyone: look at the inside face of the post cap. ViewLux stamps a lot number and series code there on most runs since 2016. If you can’t find it, measure the panel thickness. Classic panels run 1.5 inches thick; Horizon runs 1.75. If you have a Decorative series, measure the rail width, not the panel. That tells us what’s already in the ground and whether an aftermarket replacement post will actually accept your existing panels. We default to OEM ViewLux parts when the panel is still under warranty. If the warranty has lapsed, a quality aftermarket post from a supplier like Ply Gem or Bufftech usually matches the profile at a lower cost. We’ll show you both prices and let you choose.

Signs Your ViewLux Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the base. The most common failure in Los Angeles is a post that was set in a shallow hole or in soil that shifts with our wet-dry cycles. In the San Fernando Valley especially, heavy clay expands in winter and contracts in summer, and a post set in 18 inches of concrete instead of 30 will start to drift by year two. The fix is a replacement post with a proper 30- to 36-inch footing, not a re-shim.
- Gate that drags or won’t latch. This is almost always the hinge block pulling loose from the vinyl post wall. Vinyl posts are hollow, and the hinge screws only hold if a wood or composite backer block is inside the post at the hinge line. We see gates in older LA installs where the backer block was skipped entirely. The gate sags, the latch misses the strike, and the top hinge tears out.
- Panel rattle or chatter in wind. Santa Ana season exposes this one. A properly installed ViewLux panel should not move against the post. If it rattles, the panel was cut too short, or the rail brackets were never driven into the post channel correctly. Over time, that movement widens the bracket slots and turns a tighten-up into a full hardware replacement.
- Bracket rust or staining. ViewLux panels are low-maintenance, but the steel rail brackets are the weak link. Original brackets on older installs were often uncoated steel. You’ll see rust bleed down the post face after a rainy season. Stainless or polymer-coated brackets are the correct replacement, and it’s a half-day fix if the panel channels aren’t cracked.
- White chalky film on the panel surface. That’s UV oxidation, and it’s cosmetic, not structural. It doesn’t mean the fence is failing. But it does mean the panel is aging, and if the posts are the same age, it’s worth having the footings checked before you invest in a clean-and-seal job.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full ViewLux fence installation in Los Angeles, we bid $4,130 to $10,620. That covers teardown and haul-away of the old fence, new posts set in concrete at 30 to 36 inches, panels, rails, brackets, and gate hardware, plus a final walk-through and a written guarantee. Where you land in that range depends on three things: total linear feet, which ViewLux series you’re matching, and how much of the old footing has to be jackhammered out. A straight 40-foot backyard run in Westchester comes in near the low end. A 120-foot side-yard wrap with a gate on a slope in Mount Washington lands at the top.
We give you the parts number and the labor number separately on the bid. You’ll see exactly what the materials cost and what the install costs. If the job changes, the price changes on paper before we start, not in a phone call at the end. All ViewLux fence work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fence shifts, the gate sags, or a bracket fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. No inspection fee, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check the post caps for a series code, look at whether the gate hinge screws are still tight against the post, and note which way any lean is going. That’s useful information to have when you call. What a homeowner should not do is try to reset a leaning vinyl post with a bag of quick-set concrete from the home center. The post has to come out, the old footing has to be broken up or removed, and the new hole has to be dug to the right depth and backfilled correctly. Get the depth wrong and you’re redoing it next winter. Vinyl fence work isn’t high-tension or electrical, so it’s not dangerous in that category. But a 60-pound post set crooked in hardening concrete is a problem you can’t undo without cutting it out.
If the gate drags and the hinge screws still grab, shimming the bottom hinge is a reasonable weekend fix. If the post leans more than an inch off plumb, or the hinge block is pulling, that’s our call. Curtis Lane has been framing and setting fence lines across the LA Basin for the better part of two decades, and he’ll tell you the same thing on the phone: straight number, real scope, no surprises at the punch list.
FAQs
A correctly installed ViewLux fence should last 20 to 25 years in Los Angeles before the posts need serious attention. Panels can last longer. The variable is the post footing: soil movement in clay-heavy areas like the Valley cuts into that lifespan, while well-set posts in coastal areas like Playa del Rey can exceed it. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll check your specific site conditions.
Yes, and repair is usually the right call if the panels are intact and the posts are only failing in one or two spots. A single post replacement with a proper footing typically runs $400 to $850 depending on access and footing removal. We’ll tell you honestly whether a repair will hold or whether you’re chasing failures. Call (903) 568-7222 for a written assessment.
A full replacement of 40 to 80 linear feet is typically done in one day. We bring a two- or three-person crew, tear out the old fence, set the new posts, and hang the panels. Concrete needs overnight to fully cure before gate hardware is final-torqued the next morning. We’ll give you a written schedule before we start.
We stock posts, U-channel adapters, rail brackets, stainless hinge hardware, and gate backer blocks for all three ViewLux series. If you know your series code, we can confirm parts availability on the first call. If you don’t, we’ll figure it out during the estimate. Call (903) 568-7222.
No. The written price we give you before work starts is the price you pay, unless you change the scope. If we hit a buried concrete footing or a root system we couldn’t see, we show you the issue and the added cost in writing before we do anything. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s not negotiable.
