Barrette Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Barrette fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a full replacement with new posts, rails, and panels on an average residential lot. We stock Barrette-compatible hardware, gate kits, and panel sections on our trucks, and most single-section repairs or gate replacements go in same day once we confirm the model.

Most Los Angeles homeowners call us because a gate sags, a post leans, or a wind gust took a panel down and now the rail splintered. The discovery usually goes one of two ways: either you’ve got the original paperwork and a Barrette model number, or you’re measuring a broken rail at dusk with a tape measure and hoping for the best. Either way, we can match it.

One note up front: Bradford Remodeling is an independent contractor, not a Barrette dealer or factory rep. We install and repair Barrette fencing because the extrusion tolerances are consistent and parts stay available, not because they pay us to say so.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette’s residential vinyl and aluminum fence lines split into a few families: the Victory series, the Sierra series, and the Outdoor Essentials line sold through big-box stores. The Outdoor Essentials panels carry a thinner wall profile than the dealer-only Victory sections, and the top and bottom rails are a different inside dimension. If you bought your fence off a pallet at a home center, it’s almost certainly Outdoor Essentials, and we stock those rails plus the matching U-channel.

The compatibility gotcha we see weekly: a Barrette post from the Outdoor Essentials line will not accept a Victory rail without a shim, and forcing it splits the post at the notch. That’s a $180 mistake on top of the original part. We always measure the inside rail channel with a caliper before ordering, because the difference between lines is under a quarter inch and invisible to the naked eye.

For OEM versus aftermarket: on vinyl panels and posts, we use Barrette or a direct-match equivalent with the same wall thickness and UV stabilizer content. On aluminum gate hinges and latch hardware, we stock a commercial-grade aftermarket that outlasts the factory parts, which tend to corrode at the spring pin after three or four years of coastal air.

Signs Your Barrette Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags against the ground or won’t latch. The top hinge has worked loose from the post, or the post itself is leaning. Tightening the hinge helps for a week; we fix the post or replace the hinge bracket.
  • Posts tilt out of plumb after rain. The concrete footing wasn’t deep enough, or water has undermined the base. In Los Angeles clay, a 30-inch post hole fills with water in a wet winter and the post slowly walks.
  • Bottom rail cracks at the post notch. Heat expansion and ground movement put stress where the rail enters the post. Once that notch splits, the panel sags and the top rail follows.
  • Panels pull out of the post in high wind. The rail was cut short at installation, leaving less than a half inch of bearing inside the post. A Santa Ana event makes it obvious.
  • Vinyl turns chalky or brittle at the rail ends. UV degradation from Los Angeles sun weakens the material where stress concentrates. The panel looks fine until you lean on it, then it snaps.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

For a single broken panel section, expect $295 to $560 installed including the panel, rail cut-down if needed, and post alignment. A full gate kit with new hinges, latch, and frame runs $480 to $920. For a full fence replacement on a typical Los Angeles backyard, the range is $4,130 to $10,620 depending on panel count, post condition, soil access, and whether the fence line requires dig alert or a drawn permit.

Every bid from us is a written line-item price before the work starts. That includes the exact part number, the labor, hauling the old section away, and cleanup of the work area. We do not bid a range and then claim “unforeseen conditions” at the end. If a post is rotted below grade, we’ll show you before we touch it. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed installation for a full year: if it fails inside that window, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Vinyl panel replacement is one of the safer fence jobs, but it goes wrong in predictable ways. You can square-check a gate with a level, confirm the post is plumb, and measure the exact rail width with a cheap caliper. What you shouldn’t do is force a mis-sized rail into a post notch or re-set a post in a hole that’s already undermined. Vinyl cracks without warning under load, and a snapped rail edge is sharp enough for stitches.

If the post footing is compromised or the gate hinges have stripped their anchors, that’s where we’d rather take it. Curtis Lane has been doing framing, foundation work, and finish carpentry across Los Angeles for two decades, and he’s clear about the discipline: measure first, match the part, set the grade right. A straight number, a real scope, no surprises at the punch list. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll come out and tell you exactly what you’ve got and what it costs to make it right.
