Cover Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If your Cover driveway or paver system has a cracked section, a failing substrate, or a paver that’s shifted out of alignment, we stock the replacement parts and install them properly the first time. Installing driveway pavers in Los Angeles typically runs $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage, substrate condition, and paver type. Most owners discover the problem after a heavy rain season, when a low spot pools water or a paver sinks below grade.

Call (903) 568-7222

We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor and not affiliated with Cover or its parent company. What that means for you: we source Cover-compatible materials and spec-correct replacements, but we’re not limited to one brand’s catalog. If a comparable Belgard or Unilock paver gives you better wear for the money, we’ll tell you that upfront and put it in writing before any work starts.

What usually fails first isn’t the paver itself. It’s the base. In Los Angeles, our dry summers bake clay-heavy soils into rock, then winter rains saturate and swell them. That cycle is what pushes pavers out of plane. We see it weekly from Sherman Oaks to Westchester, and the fix never starts with the paver. It starts underneath.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover driveway and paver systems generally fall into three categories: permeable interlocking concrete pavers (PICP), full-depth concrete driveway slabs with paver-style scoring, and hybrid systems with concrete borders and paver infill. Each uses different base depths, joint materials, and edge restraints.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners miss: Cover’s paver lines are dimensional, meaning a replacement paver from a different production run can be off by 1/8″ or more even if it’s the same model number. That tolerance matters when you’re doing a repair section that has to match an existing field. We measure existing pavers with a caliper, not a tape measure, and order replacements to the millimeter. If we’re matching a discontinued Cover color, we’ll show you current-manufacture equivalents from Belgard, Unilock, or a local Los Angeles paver yard before we order anything.

The OEM-versus-aftermarket call depends on age. If your Cover system is under ten years old and the color is still in production, OEM makes sense for a tight match. Older systems, especially ones faded by Southern California sun, often blend better with a carefully selected aftermarket paver than with a brand-new OEM piece that will look like a patch for the next five years. We’ll lay out both options in the estimate.

Signs Your Cover Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • A paver sinks below the surrounding surface. This is a base failure, not a paver failure. Water found its way through the joints, eroded the bedding sand, and created a void. Fixing just the paver without rebuilding the base means you’ll repeat the repair next winter.
  • Water pools after light rain. Driveways should drain in minutes. Standing water means the original slope has flattened, usually because the subgrade settled. In Los Angeles, city code typically requires a minimum 1% slope for drainage on hardscape.
  • Joint sand washes out after every storm. When polymeric sand fails or was never compacted correctly, joints become gaps. Gaps let water reach the base, and the base is what holds your driveway level.
  • Edge pavers shift outward toward the grass or planter. Edge restraint has failed or was never installed. Without a solid edge, the entire field of pavers will migrate over time.
  • Cracks spider across a paver’s face. This is often a point-load issue: a vehicle parked in the same spot for years, or a paver laid over an improperly compacted base. The crack tells you where the load concentrated, not what caused it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Paver driveway installation in Los Angeles runs $8,260 – $21,240 for a full job. A repair section, like replacing 100 – 200 square feet of failed base and resetting pavers, typically starts around $2,500 – $4,500 depending on access and the condition of existing materials. Here’s how the numbers break down:

  • Demo and removal of failed pavers: $2 – $4 per square foot
  • Base excavation and compaction (6″ – 8″ Class II road base): $4 – $7 per square foot
  • Bedding sand and paver reset: $3 – $6 per square foot
  • Polymeric joint sand and compaction: $1 – $2 per square foot
  • New replacement pavers (if needed): $4 – $12 per square foot depending on type and brand

Every estimate from Bradford Remodeling includes a written price before work starts. That price doesn’t move at the door. What’s included: demolition, base work, paver installation, joint sand, cleanup, and haul-off. What’s covered after: the 365-Day Done Right Promise, which is a written guarantee on every completed project. If the work fails inside that year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the driveway after rain and mark where water pools. Look for pavers that rock underfoot. Note which way the slope runs. That information helps us price the job faster when you call.

What we’d caution against is trying to reset sunken pavers yourself. Lifting a paver, adding sand, and putting it back can feel straightforward. But if the base has failed, you’re putting a bandage on a broken bone. A properly repaired driveway section means excavating to undisturbed soil, recompacting in lifts, and reinstalling with correct slope. Get that wrong and you’ve spent a weekend making the problem worse. The only heavy-equipment part of this job is the compactor, which you don’t want to rent for a repair that won’t hold.

If you’d rather have it squared away, call (903) 568-7222. We’ll send someone out to look at the base, not just the paver, and give you a straight number in writing.
