Bufftech Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Bufftech fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete panel-and-post system, with most residential jobs landing between $16 and $22 per linear foot when we break it down on the written estimate. If you’re reading this, you probably have a specific problem: a post that’s leaning after winter rain, a gate that drags, a panel that cracked at the bottom rail, or a section that came loose from its concrete footing. We stock Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate hardware on the truck, and Curtis Lane’s crew can usually get a failed section swapped within a day or two of the site visit, depending on what the footing inspection shows.

Bufftech is a vinyl fence line, and in Los Angeles it takes a beating no one talks about: UV exposure that cooks the surface over a decade, dry soil that shrinks away from concrete footings in summer, and heavy clay in neighborhoods like Hancock Park and Studio City that swells in winter and pushes posts out of plumb. Most owners find out the hard way that the part that failed wasn’t the vinyl itself. It was the post footing, the gate hinge screws, or an undersized bottom rail someone installed years ago to save a few dollars.

Bradford Remodeling is an independent fencing and remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with Bufftech or its parent company. We install and repair Bufftech-compatible components because they’re what the fences we see across Los Angeles are built from.

Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

Bufftech has run several product lines over the years, and the part you need depends on which one is standing in your yard. The most common lines we work on in Los Angeles are the CertaGrain series, which has a wood-grain texture, the Brookline series, which is a cleaner board-and-rail look, and the older Bufftech Classic and Imperial lines that predate some of the current catalog. Each series uses a slightly different post profile and rail channel, which matters when you’re ordering a single replacement post or a few pickets.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners run into: a Bufftech CertaGrain picket will not seat correctly in a Brookline rail, even if the overall dimensions look close. The tongue-and-groove profile is different. Same goes for gate hinge hardware. Bufftech changed its hinge screw patterns between product generations, and the older Classic gates used a different spacing than what’s sold today. We measure before we order. If you’re trying to identify what you have, look for a stamped product code on the inside of a rail or along the bottom edge of a picket. If it’s faded or gone, measure the picket width and the post wall thickness. That’ll usually narrow it down.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Bufftech specifically, we use OEM posts and rails whenever the fence is less than ten years old, because the color match matters. UV-aged vinyl develops a patina, and a fresh aftermarket picket can stand out like a band-aid. For older fences where an exact color match isn’t realistic anyway, quality aftermarket components with matching dimensions do the job at a lower part cost. We’ll tell you which one makes sense for your fence and put that in writing.

Signs Your Bufftech Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean, especially after rain. In Los Angeles clay soil, water swells the ground and pushes against a too-shallow footing. The post doesn’t break; it rotates. The fix is usually a new footing poured below the frost-adjacent soil movement zone, not a new post.
  • Gate dragging on the latch side. This is a hinge failure nine times out of ten. The screws strip out of the post, or the hinge pin wears oval. A dragging gate is the early warning. Left alone, the post face cracks around the hinge plate and you’re replacing the whole post.
  • Cracked or popped bottom rail. Vinyl expands and contracts with temperature swings, and Los Angeles gets daily 30-degree swings in places like the San Fernando Valley. If the bottom rail was installed without room to move, it cracks at the joint. We see this constantly in six-to-eight-year-old fences.
  • Pickets lifting out of the bottom rail. The rails sag over time, or the rail slots get wallowed out by wind load. Once a picket can move, it starts slapping in high winds, and that wears every adjacent joint. You’ll typically see it first on the windward side of the property, if you’re up against a canyon or open ridgeline.
  • White chalky residue that wipes off on your hand. That’s surface oxidation, and it’s normal for vinyl in high-UV climates. It’s cosmetic, not structural. But if the panel has turned brittle and you can flex a picket to the point of white stress marks at the corners, the material has lost its plasticizer. That panel fails soon.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

A Bufftech fence installation in Los Angeles runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete job on a typical residential lot, and the range is driven by three things: total linear feet, footing depth and soil type, and whether we’re reusing existing concrete or pouring new. A single failed post replacement with a new concrete footing runs toward the lower end proportionally; a full panel-and-post system with a gate on a 120-foot property line sits at the upper end. We don’t quote “per-section pricing” over the phone because the footing condition changes everything. What we do is come out, inspect, measure, and hand you a written line-item price before any work starts. No numbers that move at the door. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s the way every Bradford Remodeling estimate works.

Every Bufftech fence installation we complete in Los Angeles carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the fence fails inside that year, whether it’s a popped rail, a leaning post, or a gate that won’t close, we come back and correct it at no charge. The only thing we ask is that you tell us when you first notice it. We’d rather fix a small problem at month two than replace a section at month eleven.

Scope Typical Installed Price
Single post replacement with new concrete footing $380 – $720
Single gate hinge set replacement (parts + labor) $160 – $340
Rail and picket replacement on a 6-ft section $420 – $890
Full Bufftech fence installation, 100 linear ft with one gate $4,130 – $10,620
Gate replacement (custom-sized Bufftech-compatible) $640 – $1,650

DIY or Call Us?

Vinyl fence work is safe to look at, but it’s easy to get wrong once you start pulling parts. You can safely check what’s broken: look at where the post meets the soil line, run a level on the post, and see if the gate screws spin freely in their holes. That tells you whether it’s a footing, a rail, or a hinge. What we’d tell you not to do is dig out and re-pour a footing without knowing your soil, or try to stretch a warped rail back into shape with a ratchet strap. Vinyl has a memory, and once it’s bowed, forcing it back cracks the channel. Same with attempting to re-hang a gate solo. A full-size vinyl gate is heavy, and a dropped gate will crack a post or pop a hinge plate clean off.

If you want to know what you’re dealing with before you call, walk the fence line with a camera and note which posts are out of plumb. Then call Curtis Lane’s crew at (903) 568-7222 and tell us what you saw. We’ll give you a real price range and a written estimate if it makes sense. No obligation.

How Long Does a Bufftech Fence Last in Los Angeles?

Expect 18 to 25 years for the vinyl itself in the Los Angeles sun, with the gate hardware and footings typically being the things that fail first, usually in the 8 to 12 year range. Coastal neighborhoods like Playa del Rey and El Segundo see less UV degradation than inland areas like Woodland Hills, but they deal with salt air on the hardware, so hinges and screws corrode faster there. The vinyl doesn’t rot like wood, but it does get brittle with enough years of direct sun and diurnal temperature swings.

Can You Repair a Bufftech Fence Instead of Replacing It?

Yes, and in most cases that’s exactly what we do. A leaning post with a bad footing can often be straightened, re-set, and re-secured without replacing the post itself. A cracked rail segment can be cut out and replaced with a matching section, a sagging gate is almost always a hinge fix. We replace the full fence only when the vinyl has gone brittle across multiple panels or when the original installation used undersized rails that will keep failing. Call (903) 568-7222 and describe what you’re seeing; we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a repair scenario or a replacement scenario before anyone shows up.

How Long Does the Swap Take?

Most single-post or single-section failures are a one-day job once we’re on site. A full fence installation on a typical Los Angeles lot runs two to four days depending on linear feet and how much old concrete we’re pulling out. We don’t quote a date until we’ve seen the footing conditions. What we commit to is a written date on the estimate and cleanup before we leave the site.

Do You Stock Bufftech Parts on the Truck?

We stock common Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate hinge sets. For unusual configurations or a specific color matching an older fence, we place a parts order after the initial site visit. The site visit comes first so we’re not guessing. On most Los Angeles fences, we can have the right parts in hand within a few business days and the work scheduled shortly after.
