GAF Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
GAF fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a full vinyl fence replacement with GAF-compatible materials, and most jobs are scheduled within a week of the written estimate. The project includes removing the old fence line, setting new posts in concrete, and installing GAF-rated vinyl panels, rails, and trim with a clean site at close. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover their fence needs replacement after a winter storm snaps a post at the base or sun damage turns the vinyl brittle enough to crack under hand pressure.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a GAF affiliate. That matters because we carry GAF-spec fencing materials and matching hardware from local supply houses across the Basin, which means the parts arrive on schedule and the color matches the sample you approved in writing.
Which GAF Models This Applies To

GAF’s fencing line spans a few distinct series, and the part you need depends on the panel profile your fence was built with. The most common in Los Angeles are the GAF Georgetown and GAF Charlotte profiles, both tongue-and-groove vinyl with a nominal ¾-inch panel thickness. The rails and posts are universal across most recent GAF residential fence kits, but the pickets and top caps are profile-specific. If you’ve got a fence with flat-top panels and tight seams, that’s Georgetown. A beveled top edge with a visible reveal between pickets is usually Charlotte.
Identifying the right part is straightforward if you still have the original installation paperwork or the factory label on the inside of a post cap. If not, measure the wall thickness of a panel at the top rail: GAF residential panels run .135 to .150 inches thick, which is heavier than the .110-.inch vinyl sold at big-box stores in Los Angeles. That wall thickness matters. A thinner aftermarket panel from a Garden Grove or North Hollywood supply yard might clip into a GAF rail, but it will warp in the first real heat wave. We recommend staying with GAF-spec or true OEM GAF replacement parts for anything visible on the fence line.

Signs Your GAF Fence Installation Is Failing
- Posts leaning more than 5 degrees off plumb. In Los Angeles, this is almost always a failed concrete footing or a post that was set too shallow. Builders who rush this pour the footing at 18 inches; we set posts at 24 to 30 inches below grade, below the clay expansion line that moves with winter rain and summer drought.
- Panels popping out of the bottom rail channel. The vinyl expands and contracts with temperature, and a panel cut too tight has no room to move. When it buckles out, that’s a measurement error at install, not a material defect.
- Visible cracks running vertically from the top rail down through the picket. UV exposure in Los Angeles degrades the plasticizer in vinyl over 10 to 15 years. Once cracks show, the panel has lost its flex and will keep cracking until it fails entirely.
- Gate sagging or dragging across the ground on the latch side. The hinge post was never reinforced with a steel insert or the concrete collar around the post has cracked. On a GAF fence, the gate is the first component to fail in Los Angeles because it carries the most moving weight every day.
- White chalky residue on the surface that won’t wash off. That’s the top layer of the vinyl breaking down. It means the panel has a few years left at most, and replacement panels will never match the weathered color of the old ones.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a GAF fence installation in Los Angeles, plan on $4,130 to $10,620 for a typical backyard fence line of 40 to 100 linear feet. The spread comes down to three things: the linear footage, whether you’re replacing the whole fence or just a damaged section, and what’s under the old posts. A straight replacement on flat ground in Torrance or Long Beach runs at the lower end. A hillside lot in Silver Lake or Echo Park with retaining walls, stepped panels, or roots to cut through pushes toward the top of the range.
Every Bradford Remodeling fence quote is a written line-item price. You see the cost of the GAF panels, the rails, the posts, the concrete, the labor, and the haul-away before any work starts. That price does not move at the door. When the job is done, the site is scraped clean, the old fence is hauled off, and you get our signed 365-Day Done Right Promise in your hand: if the fence fails within one year, we come back and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner can safely inspect a GAF fence: check post plumb with a level, look for cracks, test the gate swing, and note which panels show sun damage. That inspection tells you what needs replacing and what’s still sound. But pulling a GAF post out of a cracked Los Angeles footing, resetting it below the clay line, and reattaching panels with the right expansion gaps is not a Saturday afternoon job. A fence that’s out of square will fight you on every rail, and a gate that’s hung wrong will sag inside a year.

FAQs

A properly installed GAF vinyl fence in Los Angeles lasts 20 to 25 years before the panels show real UV degradation, assuming the posts were set below the clay expansion line and the gate hardware was reinforced. Fences set shallow or built with thin aftermarket panels can start failing in as little as 8 to 10 years. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll tell you honestly which category your fence is in before you spend a dollar.
Yes, if the damage is limited to individual panels, a single post, or the gate hardware. We stock GAF-spec replacement panels and matching rails, and we’ll match a section repair to the existing fence as closely as the sun-weathering will allow. If the damage is widespread, full replacement is usually the better use of your money. Call (903) 568-7222 for a written quote either way.
Most straightforward GAF fence installations in Los Angeles take two to three working days from post removal to final gate adjustment. That includes concrete cure time for the new footings. Larger properties, hillside installations, or jobs that involve existing hardscape can run four to five days. We’ll put the timeline in writing before the first post hole is dug.
We carry GAF-spec rails, post caps, gate hinges, and latch hardware on our Los Angeles service trucks, along with a limited selection of panel profiles. Full panel sets are ordered per project from our local suppliers so the color batch matches across the whole fence line. If you need a specific GAF profile matched, call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll confirm availability before you commit.
Along with GAF, we also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products on our remodeling projects, so the specifications on every job are traceable and documented.
