Kohler Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
A full Kohler bathroom remodel in Los Angeles runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, and we match Kohler valves, trims, and fixtures to existing plumbing without reworking the wall cavity. We carry Kohler-compatible parts on the truck for most Rite-Temp and HiFlow valve bodies, and we can usually complete a single-bathroom remodel in two to three weeks once materials land. Most homeowners call us after a handle starts spinning freely, a cartridge seizes, or a diverter stops sending water to the showerhead.
Kohler parts fail in predictable ways. The pressure-balancing cartridge wears out, the valve body develops pinhole leaks from hard water, or the trim plate corrodes and seizes to the escutcheon. If you’re mid-shave and the water suddenly goes cold, or you hear a hammering sound when you shut the valve off, that’s the Kohler part talking to you. We know exactly what it’s saying.
Which Kohler Models This Applies To

We work across the Kohler shower and tub lines most common in Los Angeles homes: Purist, Stillness, Artifacts, Devonshire, Bancroft, and the older Coralais series that still shows up in 1980s and 1990s builds. The compatibility gotcha with Kohler is the valve body. A Purist trim will not fit a Coralais rough-in valve, even if both say “Kohler” on the box. The valve body is the hidden part behind the wall, and its model number is stamped on the brass itself. You don’t need to open the wall to find it – pop the trim plate off and look at the valve. We’ll do this on site before quoting so there’s no surprise when the trim doesn’t seat.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for anything water-bearing, we stay with genuine Kohler cartridges, pressure-balancing units, and seals. Aftermarket rubber kits are cheaper but they swell and split inside two years in Los Angeles hard water, and then you’re back where you started. For non-water-bearing parts like trim rings, escutcheons, and handle adapters, quality aftermarket can match OEM at half the price, and we’ll tell you which is which before we order.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Kohler Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Handle spins freely without changing temperature. The spline adapter connecting the handle to the cartridge stem has stripped. This is the most common Kohler failure we see, and it’s a quick fix if we catch it before water leaks behind the plate.
- Water temperature spikes or drops when someone flushes a toilet. The pressure-balancing cartridge has seized, which means it’s no longer compensating for pressure changes in the line. A clogged balancing spool can often be cleaned; a seized one gets replaced.
- Water drips from behind the trim plate even with the handle off. The cartridge O-rings or the valve body seals have failed. Ignore this long enough and you’ll be replacing drywall and subfloor, not just a ring.
- You hear a thud or hammer sound when the shower shuts off. This is water hammer, and while old houses with unsecured pipes are prone to it, a worn Kohler stop-valve can make it worse. We’ll check both before we quote.
- Corrosion or green buildup at the base of the spout or handle. This is electrolysis from dissimilar metals, common in older Los Angeles homes where copper supply lines meet brass fittings without dielectric unions. We’ll address the fitting, not just polish the trim.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Kohler bathroom remodel in Los Angeles lands between $10,620 and $33,040, with the spread driven primarily by tile scope, whether the tub stays or becomes a walk-in shower, and whether we’re moving plumbing. A tub-to-shower conversion with Kohler fixtures runs $4,130 to $11,800. A shower replacement alone is $3,540 to $10,030. If all you need is a Kohler cartridge swap and trim update, you’re typically under $800 parts and labor.
Every quote is a written price before work starts. No numbers move at the door. The price includes disconnecting and capping old fixtures, mounting the new Kohler valve and trim, verifying pressure balance, sealing all penetrations, and hauling off the old parts. We pull permits when the scope requires it, and the completed work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside a year, we return and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely diagnose a Kohler problem before calling. Remove the handle and check the spline adapter for stripped teeth. Push the trim plate aside and look at the valve body for green corrosion or visible drips. Take photos so we can quote accurately over the phone. What you should not do is open the wall to access the valve body or attempt a cartridge pull without the Kohler cartridge removal tool. Without that tool, you’ll score the valve inside the wall, and then the fix costs ten times more than the tool would have.
Kohler cartridge replacement feels simple until it isn’t. We’ve fixed enough stripped brass and cracked retaining nuts to know the difference between a clean pull and a wall-open repair. Call us at (903) 568-7222 and we’ll talk you through what you’re seeing before we ever schedule the truck.
FAQs

In Los Angeles water conditions, a Kohler pressure-balancing cartridge typically lasts 8 to 12 years, and the valve body itself should last 30 years or more. Hard water shortens cartridge life. If your valves are older than the 2000s, the trim is likely discontinued and you’re looking at a valve replacement, not a cartridge swap. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll identify your valve model over the phone.
In many cases, yes. A cartridge swap, O-ring replacement, or balancing spool cleaning fixes 90 percent of what we see without replacing the valve body. The exception is when the valve brass itself is pitted or cracked from electrolysis, which is a replace-not-repair situation. We’ll tell you which camp you’re in before any work begins.
A single-bathroom Kohler remodel takes two to three weeks from demo to final grout, assuming the valve body doesn’t move and the tile scope stays as quoted. A tub-to-shower conversion usually runs seven to ten days. We sequence demo, plumbing, tile, and trim in that order so the crew doesn’t trip over itself, and the site is clean at the end of every day.
We keep the most common Kohler Rite-Temp cartridges, pressure-balancing units, and trim adapters on the truck, along with handles and escutcheons for current series. Obscure or discontinued Kohler trims get ordered through our supply network, which adds three to five days. Other brands we stock parts for include KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone. Call (903) 568-7222 with your model number and we’ll tell you the same day whether it’s on the shelf or on order.
