Quikrete Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
A Quikrete-based bathroom remodel in Los Angeles typically costs $10,620 – $33,040 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a shower pan, rebuilding a wet wall, or doing a full gut-and-refinish. We stock Quikrete-compatible products on our trucks for shower pans, mortar beds, and tile substrate work, so most repairs don’t wait on a supply-house run. The way most Los Angeles homeowners discover a Quikrete problem is unglamorous: a soft spot in the shower floor, a cracked curb, or grout that keeps crumbling no matter how many times it’s re-pointed.
Bradford Remodeling is an independent contractor serving Los Angeles. We’re not affiliated with Quikrete. We use their products because they hold up in our climate, and we know their failure points well enough to price the fix honestly before we touch a wall.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete’s bathroom-relevant product line breaks into three groups that Los Angeles remodels actually use. Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix (#1103) is the workhorse for shower pan pre-slope and top mortar beds. Quikrete Mortar Mix (#1102) is what we set shower curbs and glass-block walls with. Quikrete Concrete Mix (#1101) shows up in older Los Angeles homes where the bathroom sits on a raised foundation and the subfloor has been patched with a concrete pour. The compatibility gotcha: Sand/Topping Mix is not the same as Mortar Mix. Sand/Topping is engineered for thicknesses from 1/2 inch to 2 inches. Mortar Mix is for beds up to 1 inch thin. Using one where the other belongs is the most common Quikrete failure we see, and the fix is always a tear-out, not a patch.
Identifying what’s under your tile matters. If your shower floor has movement, the mortar bed is likely done. If your curb is cracked along the edge, the mix was probably too wet when it was troweled, or it was Mortar Mix doing a Sand/Topping job. We match the right Quikrete product to the right layer every time, and we write the spec on your invoice so you can hand it to the next guy if there ever is one.
OEM versus aftermarket: Quikrete doesn’t make “parts” in the mechanical sense. The product is the bagged mix. What fails is the installed assembly. We stock genuine Quikrete bags, not generic box-store equivalents, because the aggregate sizing and cure profile in Quikrete products are consistent from batch to batch. Generics in Los Angeles can vary enough that a shower pan cures with uneven density, which is how you get a tile popping off a month after the job’s done.

Signs Your Quikrete Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Soft or flexing shower floor. A properly packed Quikrete mortar bed has zero give. If the tile moves when you stand on it, the bed underneath has likely cracked or separated from the subfloor. This is a tear-out, not a grout repair.
- Recurring grout failure in the same spots. Grout doesn’t crumble on its own. Movement in the mortar bed transmits pressure to the tile, and the grout is the first thing to fail. If you’ve re-grouted twice and it keeps cracking, the Quikrete substrate is the problem, not the grout.
- Cracked shower curb. The curb takes the most concentrated weight in a shower, and it’s usually built from 2x4s and mortar. A crack running along the top edge usually means the mortar was mixed too thin or the wood underneath has swelled from water penetration.
- Water stains on the ceiling below the bathroom. Shower pan failures don’t always show up in the bathroom itself. Water tracks through the mortar bed and onto the subfloor, then finds the path of least resistance downward. We get calls from Los Angeles homeowners who discover the shower pan failed from a stain in the living room below.
- Efflorescence or white mineral deposits on grout or tile edges. Water moving through a compromised mortar bed carries minerals to the surface. Those white streaks are evidence of water behind the tile, not a cosmetic issue.
One California-specific reality: our hard water accelerates mineral buildup inside a failing mortar bed, and our seismic shifts are real. Los Angeles sits on ground that moves. A bathroom remodel needs a substrate that tolerates small movements without fracturing. Quikrete products, properly sloped and packed, hold up. Installed wrong, they fail in years, not decades.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Quikrete-based bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles runs $10,620 – $33,040. Here’s how that range breaks down:

- Complete bathroom remodel with Quikrete shower system: $10,620 – $33,040. Full gut, reroute as needed, Quikrete pan and walls, tile, fixtures, finish carpentry.
The spread depends on square footage, whether we’re rebuilding framing, and which finish materials you choose. Every Bradford Remodeling bid is a written line-item price before we start. No numbers move at the door. Your invoice lists the Quikrete products we’ll use, the thickness of each bed, and the waterproofing method. Every completed remodel carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails within one year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That includes the Quikrete work.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check the surface yourself: press around the shower floor, look for cracked grout patterns, check the ceiling below the bathroom for stains. That’s information gathering, and it’ll help you have an honest conversation when you call us.
What you should not do is attempt a Quikrete shower pan repair as a DIY project. This is not like patching a sidewalk. A shower pan requires exact slope (1/4 inch per foot), the right mix ratio, proper curing time before tile, and waterproofing layering that’s code-compliant in Los Angeles. Get the slope wrong and water sits. Mix too wet and the bed delaminates from the subfloor. Tile over uncured mortar and you get exactly the failures listed above, only now you’ve spent a weekend and a few hundred dollars doing it wrong. We’ve fixed more DIY shower pans in the San Fernando Valley and the Westside than from any other cause. If your Quikrete shower floor is soft, cracked, or leaking, call (903) 568-7222. We’ll give you a straight number and a real scope.
FAQs

A properly installed Quikrete mortar bed under tile lasts 30 to 50 years in Los Angeles. The failure we see usually happens within the first five years, and it’s almost always an installation error: wrong mix, wrong thickness, or improper curing. If yours failed early, the fix is a tear-out and redo, not a patch.
A surface patch rarely works. The crack usually indicates movement or water penetration in the bed below the tile. Patches fail within months and the water damage continues underneath. We recommend full replacement of the pan, which is why the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the entire job, not just the top layer. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll tell you honestly if a patch is viable in your specific case, but most aren’t.
Most shower pan replacements take 3 to 5 working days in Los Angeles, including demolition, subfloor work, Quikrete bed installation, curing time, waterproofing, and tile. Full bathroom remodels involving Quikrete substrates run 2 to 4 weeks depending on scope. We schedule the curing time correctly, never shortchanging it to hit a date.
We keep genuine Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix, Mortar Mix, and Concrete Mix on our trucks for Los Angeles bathroom work. If your job needs a specific Quikrete product we don’t carry, we source it from local distributors before the project starts so there’s no mid-job substitute. Substitutions are the enemy of a good shower.
