Sterling Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Sterling bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single fixture or gutting the room to the studs. We stock Sterling-compatible trim kits, valve assemblies, and tub-to-shower conversion components on our trucks, so most partial replacements happen in one visit. The more common scenario we see: a homeowner pulls back the shower trim and finds the valve body corroded, a tub flange cracked behind the tile, or a Sterling shower base that’s flexed enough to break the drain seal.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling plumbing fixtures break into three families: the Ensemble and Intuition tub-and-shower units, the Accord and Acclaim tubs, and the wall-surround kits that mate to Sterling shower pans. The gotcha with Sterling is that valve trim and rough-in brass are not always interchangeable across series. A pressure-balance cartridge from an Ensemble valve will not drop into an older Dual-Threshold model, and the shower-arm thread pattern changed between era runs in the mid-2010s. If you still have the original box or the model tag inside the tub apron, use that number. If not, we match by measuring the valve screw spread and counting splines on the stem. Sterling uses a proprietary drain-shape on most Ensemble bases; a generic ABS drain will leave a 1/8-inch gap that leaks slowly for months before you see it on the ceiling below.

Bradford Remodeling is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Sterling. We work with OEM Sterling parts when a direct replacement is called for, and we also stock quality aftermarket equivalents from Danco and Oatey for discontinued trim and drain assemblies where Sterling no longer ships production runs. For full bathroom remodeling, we pair Sterling tubs and shower bases with solid mid-tier and premium plumbing from Kohler and Moen if you’re replacing the valve entirely.

Signs Your Sterling Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Damp or soft drywall at the tub corner. This is usually a failed tub-flange gasket or an unsealed nailing flange. Water wicks up the wall cavity and rots the substrate before you see a drop on the floor.
  • The shower valve drips after shutdown or won’t fully shut off. The pressure-balance spool inside the Sterling cartridge wears out, especially in Los Angeles where hard water from the DWP supply builds mineral scale on the seals.
  • Cracked or flexing shower pan. Sterling fiberglass and Vikrell pans need full mortar-bed support underneath. If the original installer skimped, the pan flexes and stress fractures form at the drain collar.
  • Mold or mildew smell that won’t leave. This tells us water is trapped behind the surround. The caulk bead may look fine, but the weeps in the surround seams are clogged or the vinyl was installed tight enough to wick.
  • Visible rust line at the tub drain. The Sterling drain shoe is a threaded metal collar beneath the tub. When the rubber gasket ages out, the collar corrodes and the tub won’t hold water for a full bath.

Full gut bathroom remodel with Sterling tub or shower $10,620 – $33,040

Every Bradford Remodeling quote includes the parts, labor, demolition and haul-away of the old fixture, substrate repair where the water damage shows, and a signed written price before we open the wall. No allowances that drift, no change orders at rough-in. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the full installation for one year: if anything we touched fails, we return and correct it at no charge. That’s the Garrison Standard in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: confirm the water shutoff at the fixture works, look for a visible model tag, and run your hand along the tub apron for flex. Leave the rest alone. Sterlings valve body sits behind finished tile, and opening it up without a stainless braided supply replacement on hand is how bathrooms get flooded. The shower pan replacement requires lifting the drain, shimming the subfloor, and resetting the mortar bed so the new pan has full contact. If that’s done wrong, you’ll be back in the wall in 18 months. Straight answer: if you see water where water shouldn’t be, call us at (903) 568-7222 before the rot spreads. We’ll give you a written number and a real scope, not a guess.
