Tamko Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Tamko fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 for a standard residential property, including tear-out of the old fence, new posts set in concrete, Tamko composite or vinyl boards, gates, and hardware. Most jobs we schedule are completed in two to four working days depending on linear footage and how much old concrete we’re pulling. What usually brings an owner to this page is a fence that’s leaning, a gate that drags, or boards that have started to separate at the seams after a few years of Los Angeles sun and soil movement.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a Tamko dealer or affiliate. That means we tell you straight what a Tamko product can and can’t do in this climate, and we price the job with a written number before we start. No change orders at the door, no surprise line items at the punch list.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

If you know your fence came from Tamko, the panel style matters. Tamko’s composite and vinyl fence lines include the Envision composite boards and the Vinyl Traditions series, and the two are not interchangeable in the same run. Envision boards are thicker: a true ¾” profile with a wood-grain face, while Vinyl Traditions boards run thinner and use a different routed channel for the rails. If you have partial damage and we’re matching boards, we need that distinction. A homeowner who buys Vinyl Traditions replacement boards for an Envision fence ends up with seams that don’t line up and rails that won’t seat properly.
How to identify yours: look at the bottom rail on the inside face of the fence. Tamko stamps a product code there, usually beginning with “TV” for vinyl or “EV” for Envision. If the stamp has faded, measure the board thickness with a tape measure: ¾” means Envision, anything under that means the vinyl line. We carry both profiles on the truck, plus a limited set of aftermarket equivalents that match Tamko’s channel design and meet the same wind-load performance. For post caps and gates, we always recommend OEM Tamko hardware. Aftermarket caps crack faster in our UV, and a sagging gate pivot on a cheap bracket is a call nobody wants to make twice.

Signs Your Tamko Fence Installation Is Failing
- Posts leaning at the property line. This almost always means shallow footing or soil saturation. Los Angeles clay expands hard when wet and contracts when dry; a post set in less than 24 inches of concrete will start walking within two seasons. Tamko posts have a solid-wall profile, but even a strong post can’t hold a footing that was never deep enough.
- Boards pulling away from the center rails. On Tamko boards, this is usually a retaining clip failure, not the board itself. The clips lose tension after repeated expansion-cycling, and the board rides loose in the channel. Tightening hardware won’t fix the clip; it needs replacement, not adjustment.
- Gate dragging on the latch side. A Tamko gate that drags has either a hinge bracket with a worn pivot pin or a post that shifted. If the gate still swings but scrapes, it’s the bracket. If the gap at the top of the gate has widened, the post moved. Two different fixes, two different prices.
- Chalky, faded surface with hairline cracks on the top rail. That’s UV degradation from the Los Angeles sun. Tamko vinyl holds up longer than most, but the top rail takes full sun exposure all day and is always the first piece to go chalky. Cracks on the top rail are cosmetic at first but let water in, which then freezes and expands, which is how a 2-inch crack becomes a 12-inch split.
- Warped section near a pool or planter. Reflected light from water or a south-facing wall heats the boards past their design temperature. Tamko boards are rated for standard ambient temps, but a fence six feet from a pool in August takes a beating that a fence in a shaded side yard never sees. If the warp is in the board only, we replace the board. If the rail channel has warped too, that whole section gets re-railed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

On a Tamko fence job in Los Angeles, the $4,130 – $10,620 range breaks down like this: a small side-yard run under 50 linear feet starts around $4,130, a full backyard perimeter of 150 – 200 linear feet with two gates lands in the $8,000 – $10,620 range, and anything with custom gate work, retaining walls, or extensive old-concrete removal pushes toward the top of the range. The spread isn’t padding; it’s linear footage, footing depth, gate count, and access. A fence that requires hand-digging because a skid steer won’t fit between the house and the neighbor’s wall is a different labor job than a wide-open backyard.
What you get for that number: tear-out and haul-away of the old fence, Tamko posts set to our depth standard (minimum 30 inches with concrete collar), Tamko boards and rails, all hardware, gate installation, a clean site, and a written itemized invoice. Every Los Angeles fence we install carries the full-year guarantee under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a post shifts or a board fails inside that year, we return and correct it at no charge. That’s in writing before we start.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check the stamp on the bottom rail, measure board thickness, and take photos of the damage. That helps us price the job over the phone. What you shouldn’t do is dig out a leaning post and try to reset it yourself. A fence post in Los Angeles clay means you’re digging next to irrigation lines, possible gas lines along the property boundary, and electrical conduit if you’re near the street side. One wrong shovel strike and a fence repair becomes a utility call.
Also understand this: a Tamko fence is only as straight as the line it’s set on. We chalk the line, check existing grade, and set every post to the same depth and plumb before any board goes up. Curtis Lane, the owner here, learned on stucco and framing in Crenshaw watching his grandfather fight a back bedroom that never stayed square. That’s been his obsession ever since, and it’s why our fences don’t wave. Straight number, real scope, no surprises at the punch list. FAQs

In Los Angeles, a properly installed Tamko Envision composite fence should last 20 – 25 years, and the Vinyl Traditions line around 15 – 20, with the first visible sun-fade usually appearing around year 8 – 10. A fence set shallow or with poor drainage will fail in the footings long before the boards wear out. Call (903) 568-7222 for an assessment if your posts are leaning early.
Yes, if the damage is limited to boards, clips, or a single post. We replace the failed parts rather than a full run when the rest of the fence is structurally sound, and the cost runs proportionally below the full installation range. If the posts were set too shallow originally, though, a repair just delays the problem. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll tell you straight which one applies to your fence.
Most Los Angeles Tamko fence installations are finished in two to four working days. Tear-out of old concrete footings, access constraints, or utility locating can add a day or two, and we’ll put the schedule in writing alongside the price before the job starts.
We carry Tamko Envision and Vinyl Traditions boards, rails, clips, post caps, and gate hardware in the most common Los Angeles profiles. Less common colors or custom post lengths are ordered direct and arrive within a week. If you have a failed part and want it matched, call (903) 568-7222 with the stamp code from the bottom rail.
