Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Techo-Bloc home additions and ADU construction in Los Angeles typically runs $53,100 to $153,400, with ADU-specific builds ranging $106,200 to $259,600 depending on foundation work, utility runs, and finish level. We stock and install Techo-Bloc hardscape materials including pavers, wall systems, and steps as part of larger addition and ADU scopes, and we can usually start within two to three weeks of a signed contract. Homeowners usually call us when a previous contractor’s paver base has shifted under a new addition’s walkway, or when an ADU pad wasn’t compacted properly and the Techo-Bloc surface is now settling.
If you’re reading this, you probably have a Techo-Bloc surface that’s moving, cracking, or pulling away from a new foundation. In Los Angeles soil, that’s rarely the paver’s fault. It’s almost always what’s underneath it.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

The short answer: any Techo-Bloc paver, slab, or wall unit used in or around a residential addition or ADU. In Los Angeles, the most common lines we see are the Blu 60 and Blu 80 pavers for driveways and walkways, the Raffinato series for pool decks and patios, and the Mista or Prescott wall systems for retaining and planter walls tied to ADU grading.
The compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: Techo-Bloc products are sold in lots, and color variation between lots is real. If you need to replace a section of pavers next to an existing run, we match the lot code stamped on the underside of your original paver whenever possible. If that lot is discontinued, we order from a current lot and blend the new pieces across the whole surface so the seam doesn’t look like a patch. For aftermarket equivalents, yes, they exist, but they rarely match Techo-Bloc’s chamfer geometry or surface texture, and on a visible walkway the difference is obvious from ten feet away. We recommend OEM or same-series replacements for anything in the sightline of the house.
One more spec that matters in Los Angeles: Techo-Bloc’s HD2 and Antika slabs are rated for light vehicular use, but only when laid over a properly compacted aggregate base of 6 to 12 inches. We see failures where someone installed 4 inches of base on expansive soil and the first rainy season moved everything.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Pavers rocking or shifting underfoot. This means the bedding layer has eroded or was never compacted to spec. In Los Angeles’s clay-heavy soil, water migrates under the base and creates voids. The fix is pulling the affected area, re-compacting, and re-laying.
- Edges pulling away from the foundation or hardscape border. Missing or failed edge restraint. Techo-Bloc installations need a rigid edge, typically aluminum or concrete, to hold the field together. Without it, the perimeter pavers walk outward over time.
- Efflorescence or white chalk on new walls. This is minerals leaching through the concrete unit. It’s cosmetic and common in the first year, especially after Los Angeles’s wet winters. It can be cleaned, but if it keeps returning, the wall is retaining water it shouldn’t.
- Pooling water on a Techo-Bloc patio or ADU walkway. The surface wasn’t pitched. Techo-Bloc pavers are permeable at the joint, but the sub-base still needs a minimum 1% slope away from the structure. Standing water means the grade is wrong, not the paver.
- Retaining wall leaning or bulging. The wall system was built without proper drainage stone or a geogrid tie-back where the grade called for it. In a Los Angeles hillside ADU situation, this is a structural problem, not a paver problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Techo-Bloc repair or replacement tied to a home addition or ADU in Los Angeles, you’re looking at:
- Paver repair (spot replacement, 50 – 200 sq ft): $1,180 – $4,130
- Full paver patio or walkway re-installation: $4,130 – $12,980
- Retaining wall rebuild (Techo-Bloc wall system, up to 4 ft): $3,540 – $9,440
- New ADU with Techo-Bloc hardscape package: $106,200 – $259,600 (hardscape portion typically 8 – 15% of the build)
What drives the price in Los Angeles is base depth, access to the site, and whether we’re pulling a permit. A wall over 4 feet in LA County requires engineering, and we don’t skip that step. Every quote includes the written price before work starts, a line-item scope, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair or install fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, in writing, before we break ground.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check two things yourself: whether your edge restraint is still in place along the outside border, and whether any single paver is cracked from impact (a dropped tool, a car tire on an edge). Those are diagnosis items, not repair items.
What you shouldn’t do is pull pavers and re-lay them on the existing base. If the base has failed, you’ll waste a weekend and the surface will move again in six months. Retaining walls over 3 feet, any wall adjacent to a structure, and anything tied to ADU drainage are professional jobs under California code. A failed retaining wall in Los Angeles during a rainy season is a safety issue, not a curb appeal issue. If you’re unsure, call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s worth a site visit. Straight number, real scope, no surprises at the punch list.
FAQs

A properly installed Techo-Bloc paver surface in Los Angeles lasts 25 to 40 years with minimal maintenance, because the pavers themselves are high-density concrete that resists our UV exposure and temperature swings. The weak link is always the base and edge restraint, not the paver unit. Call (903) 568-7222 if you want us to look at the base under an existing install before you spend money on replacing pavers that may not need replacing.
Spot repair is absolutely possible when the base under the affected area is still sound, and we do it regularly for paver sections up to about 200 square feet. The repair involves pulling the affected pavers, re-leveling and compacting the bedding layer, then re-laying with matching lot units and fresh joint sand. If the failure is from a bad base across the whole surface, a repair will not hold. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll give you a straight answer after seeing the site.
Most spot paver repairs in Los Angeles take one to two days on site, including base correction and re-compaction. A full patio or walkway re-installation runs three to five days depending on access and how much old base material needs to be removed. Retaining wall rebuilds can run a week or more when engineering and drainage corrections are involved. We’ll put the day count in writing with your quote, and we hit it.
We keep a limited stock of common Techo-Bloc lines at our Los Angeles yard, including Blu 60 in the standard colorways and Raffinato slabs, so we can start many repairs without waiting on a supplier. For matching an existing lot or larger wall systems, we order from Techo-Bloc’s regional distribution, which usually lands in Los Angeles within 5 to 10 business days. We also work with documented premium brands including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the interior side, so the full addition or ADU scope stays under one written contract.
