Wellborn Home Additions & ADU: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Wellborn home additions and ADU construction in Los Angeles typically runs $53,100 – $153,400 for a completed addition, and $106,200 – $259,600 for a full standalone ADU. Bradford Remodeling installs Wellborn cabinetry and millwork inside these projects, and we stock the Wellborn door, drawer, hinge, and panel components that get called for most often. The biggest thing we see with Wellborn cabinetry that’s part of an addition or ADU isn’t usually a failed box or frame. It’s owner frustration when a door hangs wrong, soft-close stops working, or the reveal between drawers drifts because the underlying wall or floor wasn’t set level before the cabinets went in. That’s the part of “parts” nobody talks about: the cabinet is only as straight as the substrate behind it.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To
Wellborn builds across several lines, and the doors, hinges, and drawer glides are not universal across all of them. The Premier and Estate lines typically use 3/4″ face frames and standard overlay doors, while the Select and Cabinetlines series lean on 1/2″ frameless construction with different hinge cup specs. If you’re replacing a door or glide, look for the stamp on the inside of the drawer box or the hinge tag itself. Wellborn labels their hinge plates with a model number like HB33 or EB48; losing that tag makes matching a lot slower. We can match OEM Wellborn parts through our supplier network, and we also carry quality aftermarket plates and clips where the spec matches exactly. The gotcha in Los Angeles: Wellborn finishes like their painted linen and cherry stains will shift differently depending on the ADU’s exposure. A south-facing kitchen with no overhang will fade a replacement door faster than the original if it’s not from the same finish lot. Keep a cabinet door stored in a garage for a true color match. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Wellborn, so we’re honest about when a part match isn’t certain.

Signs Your Wellborn Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Doors that hang crooked or won’t close flush. This is usually the hinge cup wearing on the frame side, or the wall itself drifted after the slab settled. In Los Angeles clay soil, additions move more than people expect. A cabinet doesn’t fix itself when the wall bows; it needs a re-shim behind the face frame.
- Soft-close drawers that slam anyway. The dampening piston inside the glide loses fluid, especially in high-heat rooms. After three or four summers of LA sun through an uninsulated wall, the seal dries out and the drawer loses its catch. A new glide set is the fix.
- Drawer fronts separating from the box. Wellborn uses a dovetail assembly on upper lines, but the face plate is still mechanically attached. When an unlevel floor puts torque on the drawer, that face starts to pull away. The box is fine; the attachment isn’t. Re-setting the face and locking it with the right fasteners stops the wobble.
- Delamination on doors near the range or dishwasher. Steam and heat cycles, repeated daily, eventually separate the edge banding on a lower door. This isn’t a finish blemish. Once the edge lifts, water gets in and the panel swells. A replacement door is the clean fix, not touch-up.
- Roll-out trays that skip or grind. Ball-bearing slides collect dust and lose alignment when the tray is overloaded. The wear is on the inner race. Snap the tray out, check the rail for worn tracks. If the rail’s grooved, replace both sides; doing one side just shifts the wear.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what a Los Angeles homeowner should expect to pay when a Wellborn part or assembly needs replacement within an addition or ADU project:
- Single door replacement (Pre/Estate lines): $175 – $520 installed, depending on finish matching and hinge hardware reuse.
- Drawer glide pair (soft-close, OEM match): $65 – $240 installed, including removal and re-alignment of the drawer front.
- Face frame re-shim and door rehang: $250 – $800, depending on how many cabinets need the wall corrected.
- Full cabinet remodel (existing box reuse): $4,720 – $15,340 in Los Angeles.
- Full addition build with Wellborn cabinetry included: $53,100 – $153,400, wide because scope differs hard between a bump-out and a two-room wing.
- ADU construction with Wellborn throughout: $106,200 – $259,600, with the spread driven by kitchen size, utility runs, and slab versus over-grade foundation.
Every one of these numbers comes as a written price before we start, and it doesn’t move at the door. That’s The Garrison Standard, not a sales line. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the parts and the labor. If a door sags again or a glide fails within a year, Bradford comes back and corrects it at no charge. You’ll have that in writing when we start, and you’ll have it signed when we finish.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Pull a drawer and read the stamp. Measure a door. Look at the reveal gap along the top. These tell us what failed, and the more you can tell us, the faster we match the part. But Wellborn cabinetwork inside an addition or ADU isn’t just swapping a hinge. If the wall has moved, shimming behind a face frame is finish carpentry, and getting it wrong means the next door hangs worse than the one you tried to fix. If you’re dealing with anything above a simple knob or shelf peg, call us at (903) 568-7222. Curtis Lane grew up in the Crenshaw district watching his grandfather re-frame a back bedroom that never quite stayed square, so he’s particular about the substrate before anything else goes on. Straight number, real scope, no surprises at the punch list.
FAQs

Wellborn boxes and face frames typically hold up 20 – 30 years with normal use, but Los Angeles heat, dry air, and the structural movement from clay soil mean doors, glides, and edge banding usually need replacement or service around years 8 – 15, faster in uninsulated rooms. Call (903) 568-7222 and we’ll tell you what’s serviceable versus what needs replacement.
A solid wood door with a hinge tear-out can often be repaired with a proper dowel and re-bore, and we do that in place when the panel itself is sound. If the edge banding is lifted or the panel has swelled, replacement is typically cheaper than a repair that won’t last. Call us at (903) 568-7222 for an honest read.
A single door or drawer glide replacement is usually under two hours from arrival to cleanup. A full re-shim of a cabinet run can take half a day. We’ll give you the scope and a time window in writing before we start, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year.
We stock the most common Wellborn hinge plates, clips, and soft-close glides on the truck. Custom finishes and less common door sizes go through our supply network, which usually means one to two weeks in Los Angeles. Call (903) 568-7222 with the stamp number from the drawer box and we’ll confirm what’s available.
