Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you own a Wellborn kitchen and something’s failed, a full replacement of the affected cabinetry or a targeted kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, depending on scope. Bradford Remodeling stocks Wellborn-compatible components and installs them with a written price before any work starts. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a drawer front pulls loose, a door hinge tears out of the cabinet face, or a water-damaged base cabinet starts sagging under the sink.

The good news is you don’t have to live with it. Wellborn cabinetry is built on standardized box dimensions and face-frame specs, which means a failed part can usually be matched or replaced without gutting the entire kitchen. Curtis Lane and our crew have been working with Wellborn product lines across Los Angeles long enough to know which parts fail, why they fail, and what it takes to make the repair hold.

Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn has run three primary cabinet lines over the years: Estate, Premiere, and Cabinetworks (their builder-grade series). The Estate and Premiere lines use a 3/4-inch plywood box with a solid hardwood face frame, while Cabinetworks units often use a thinner 1/2-inch box with a furniture-board back panel. That distinction matters when you’re replacing a side panel or a toe kick: you need to match the box depth, not just the door style.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners miss: Wellborn has changed hinge boring patterns across model years. Pre-2012 cabinets used a 35mm cup boring at a specific setback; later production shifted to a slightly different overlay spec. If you swap a door but reuse the old hinge, you’ll get a door that doesn’t seat flush. We measure the door overlay and boring pattern before ordering anything, because guessing wrong means a return trip and a cabinet door that still doesn’t close right.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for Wellborn doors and drawer fronts, we order OEM or factory-matched because the finish color and grain need to line up with adjacent cabinets. For internal hardware like hinges, slides, and drawer glides, quality aftermarket equivalents from Blum or Salice work just as well and often outlast the original parts. We’ll tell you which is which and why before we spend your money.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer front pulls away from the box. The dovetail joint or the glue line on the drawer box has failed. On Wellborn units older than 15 years, the original adhesive dries out and the front separates under daily use. This is repairable, but it usually signals the drawer box itself is nearing end of life.
  • Door hinge screws strip out of the face frame. The screw holes in the hardwood face frame wallow out over time, especially on doors that get opened fifty times a day. Toothpicks and wood glue are a stopgap; a proper fix means boring the hole, gluing in a hardwood dowel, and re-drilling for the hinge screw.
  • Base cabinet floor sags under the sink. Water has gotten past the sink rim or a supply line has dripped slowly for years. The cabinet floor (the deck) swells and loses its structural integrity. In Los Angeles, our hard water accelerates pitting on supply fittings, so we see this often, especially in older homes in the Valley.
  • Toe kick separates from the cabinet base. The cabinet was not shimmed level at install, and the weight of the countertop has been pulling on the toe kick ever since. This is a framing and leveling issue, not a Wellborn manufacturing defect, which means simply reattaching the kick won’t fix it.
  • Finish peels or blisters near the cooktop or dishwasher. Heat and steam from the appliance exhaust have broken down the conversion varnish. Wellborn’s UV-cured finish is durable, but it has limits. We see this most often on cabinet doors adjacent to dishwashers venting into the kitchen, and it’s a refinish-or-replace decision based on how far the damage has spread.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

In Los Angeles, a full Wellborn kitchen remodel runs $16,520 to $53,100. That range covers everything from a straightforward cabinet replacement with new countertops to a complete tear-out with new island, backsplash, and appliance panels. A smaller refresh, swapping a failed base cabinet or replacing several damaged doors and drawer fronts, lands at the lower end of the range, often between $4,720 and $15,340 for cabinet work alone.

What drives the number is scope and material. Replacing one failed cabinet box is a lot cheaper than re-facing an entire run. Solid hardwood doors cost more than thermafoil. Countertop material moves the needle too: laminate sits at the bottom, quartz like Cambria or Silestone sits at the top, and stone fabrication in Los Angeles carries a premium because of shop rates and transport.

Every Bradford Remodeling price is written before any work starts. No numbers move at the door. That written price includes parts, labor, disposal of the failed components, and a signed guarantee at close. If the repair fails within 365 days, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s the Garrison Standard, and we put it in writing every single time.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: take a level to the countertop to see if the cabinet run has shifted, check the hinge screws to see if they’re loose, and look for water staining under the sink. Those observations help us quote the job faster. But the actual repair is where DIY goes sideways. Face-frame cabinets take real skill to match and square, and a bad hinge job means doors that rub, bind, or won’t close for the next ten years.

If the failure involves a gas line, electrical work, or a load-bearing wall, that’s not a DIY job under any circumstances. Full stop. We pull permits when the scope requires them, and we sequence the work so your kitchen isn’t down for a day longer than it needs to be. If you’re not sure whether something is safe to touch, call us at (903) 568-7222 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight answer, and the estimate is free either way.
